| IAO |
This formula is the principal and most characteristic formula of Osiris, of the Redemption of Mankind. I is Isis, Nature, ruined by A, Apophis the Destroyer, and restored to life by O the Redeemer Osiris. An alternative formula is where I is Father, O the Mother, and A the Child. In the true formula of the Beast 666, I and O are the opposites which form the field for the operation of A. See Liber Samekh, Point II, Section J. The Greek Iao Sabaoth stems from the Hebrew YHVH Tzaviot, normally translated as Lord of Hosts, a name of God in the Old Testament. |

| Imbolc |
One of the eight traditional
Wiccan Sabbats, Imbolc is sometimes referred to as the Festival of Brigid. Held
on 2nd February, it celebrates the growing strength of the God, still in His childlike form, and also the return of the 'Maiden' aspect of the
Goddess. It is also a time for blessing agricultural implements such as the plough, as well as livestock. See also
Sabbats. |
| Initiate |
Someone who has undergone, or is about to undergo,
the primary rite of entry into an order or Pagan/Neopagan organisation. |
| Initiation |
A rite of passage ceremony marking entrance or
acceptance into a group or society. In the context of
Ritual Magick and esotericism, initiation is considered to cause a fundamental
process of change to begin within the person being initiated. The initiator, being in possession of a certain power or state of being,
transfers this power or state to the person being initiated, the Initiate. |

| Invocation |
Invocation is the ‘bringing in’ or identifying with a particular
deity or spirit. Crowley wrote of two main keys to success in this arena: to enflame thyself in praying and to invoke
often. Bear in mind that for Crowley, the single most important invocation, or any act of magick for that matter, was the invocation
of one's Holy Guardian Angel, or Secret Self, thus allowing the adept to know his True
Will. See also Crowley's experience of invocation. |
