		What is Astrology? Astrology has been defined in various ways, one such example being 'the study of the synchronistic interaction of the psyche and its reflection in the physical world' amongst many others.  Basically it is the belief that the arrangement of the constellations, stars and planets at the time of a person's birth sets a predetermined pattern in that person's life. The word 'horoscope' comes from the Greek meaning 'scope of the hour'.  A horoscope is a 'map' of the mathematical relationships of the planets to the earth, and to each other, at the date and time of our birth.  It simply reflects our own individuality and identity - it does not cause it - and determines to foretell what will happen in the future, i.e. whether conditions will be favourable to conduct a business activity, move house (including emigrating), get married, start a family etc.  Horoscopes now appear in almost every national and local newspaper, as well as on the internet, and are consulted by millions of people throughout the world on a daily basis. The word 'zodiac' comes from the Greek 'zoe' (animal, or life) and 'diskos' (wheel).  There are twelve signs of the zodiac, one for each month of the year.  These signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.  Each of these signs attributed to the zodiac has a colour, a precious stone, a planet and an element (fire, water, earth or air) assigned to it as one of its attributes.  The planets reflect the archetypal references (which exist as ideas) that are inherent in the 'Multiverse' (many layered universe) holographically.  These archetypes were refined in delineation by the renowned psychologist, Carl Jung.  These 'ideas' are supposedly reflected in all that we see around us because we are 'one with the universe' and, as such, are that reality.  A poem relating to the zodiac can be read from my Poetry page. Aries Characteristics Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and hails the spring equinox, March 21.  Thus it also hails the beginning of the new zodiacal year and, as such, it means new beginnings.  As the first sign in the zodiac, Arians want to start new projects and 'lead the way'.   The sign for Aries is the Ram, and in spring young rams are adventurous and impulsive, full of boundless energy, just like those born under its sign.  Arians love a challenge.  They are pioneering and love freedom, and as such are courageous leaders, who care for all those subordinate to them, but unswerving in their objectives.  Because they like to lead, they do not make very good followers, being unwilling to obey orders or directions for which they can see no purpose or reason.  They are egoistic, and usually very concerned with gratifying their own needs. In personal relationships Arians are usually frank and very direct, and tend to be generous friends.  Arians are reputed to have a high sex drive and thus make passionate lovers.  However, this sex drive can have a negative side and drive them to promiscuity, and even 'trick' them into a marriage which could possibly end with disastrous results.  But if the marriage is successful with offspring, Arians make devoted parents, defending their children with their own lives if necessary. Taurus Characteristics The Taurean's main characteristics are strength of will, extreme determination and practicality.  They are generally dependable, steadfast, prudent, fair, firm and unshaken when faced with adversities.  They are stable, enthusiastic, confident, well-balanced law-abiding people and lovers of peace, with a strong sense of material values.  Being more practical than intellectual the majority of the time, they tend to become fixed on a theme or subject due to their preference for relying on accepted or known and proven patterns of experience.   They have a love for the 'good things in life', luxury, pleasure, comfort, good food and the best of wines.  Consequently, they may have to resist the temptation to over indulgence and drunkenness. In relationships they make true and generous friends, but rarely with those outside their own social status.  They are amorous, but not excessively so, and tend to be sexually straightforward, not given to experimentation in the bedroom.  They are faithful, home loving spouses and make thoughtful, kind parents.  Should anyone offend them they readily become a true enemy, although they soon forgive if their offender makes an apology and meets them halfway. Gemini Characteristics Gemini is the dual-aspected sign of the Twins, and as such is very complex as well as contradictory.  On the one hand it produces attributes such as versatility, but on the other two-facedness, inconsistency and slyness.  Geminians are normally very intelligent and analytical from childhood.  They love mental challenges, easily grasping virtually everything requiring mental aptitude, but they dislike the labour involved in the learning process.  Their concentration does not tend to last, and they will readily 'change horses' midstream, moving from one project to another.  When faced with adversities, they have no desire to worry about a problem or to search for a solution.  Instead, they will pick someone else's brain.  Geminians can be courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful, but despite these excellent attributes, because of their 'alter-ego', they will use their personalities to achieve their own ends.  If this involves having to tell lies, or using cunning, sly or evasive means, they will have no qualms about it, and will unscrupulously put the blame on somebody else. They can be entertaining companions, witty acquaintances rather than true friends, but never dull.  With their love of talking they are great conversationalists, but they can also be quarrelsome, boasters, cheats and liars.  Because of the dual aspect of their emotional nature, Geminians are fickle in relationships.  They can be very emotional but at the same time dislike any sign of sentimentality.  Because Geminians take nothing seriously, in love they are flirtatious, any emotion they show being for the 'moment' while the relationship is new.  They enjoy the thrill of the chase, but tend lo lose interest once the prey has been caught. Career Their general characteristics suggest that Geminians can succeed in many walks of life.  Their love of talking and reading makes them skilful at speaking and writing, so they could become debaters, diplomats, preachers, teachers, lawyers, authors, poets or journalists.  Any type of work where they can use their quick wit in different surroundings would be ideal.  This encompasses serving in the armed forces, dealing with the public or as a sales representative.  Being logical, rational and analytical they would also make good scientists or possibly IT specialists.  Conversely, their 'other side' suggests they could become confidence tricksters or thieves, at which they would probably excel. Cancer Characteristics Of all the characteristics associated with the signs of the zodiac, those relating to the Cancerian are the least clear-cut, ranging from the timid, dull, shy, cautious and shrewd to the most brilliant extrovert.  Negatively, Cancerians can be over-emotional, unable to 'let go', moody and/or touchy.  Just like a crab (or the majority of them), permanently attached to its shell, Cancerians are home loving people, the male needing a secure base to which he can retire, the female pursuing her overwhelming maternal instincts.  Cancerians are very imaginative, sometimes over-imaginative, and thus prone to fantasy.  They have excellent memories, in particular for those events which had some strong emotional effect on them, and are able to recall the exact details years later.  Outwardly, Cancerians give the impression of being tough, sometimes physically, always mentally, but this toughness is only an outer barrier, a 'shell'.  Just like the crab they have a soft inside, sympathetic and extremely vulnerable to their emotions and uncompromising sentimentality. Cancerians make very loyal friends and are doggedly patriotic.  In personal relationships they are a mixture of toughness and softness, often emotional and romantic, but, nevertheless, remaining extremely loyal to their partners and family.  They are greatly influenced by the ones they love, giving much and asking for little in return. Leo Characteristics Leo is the most extrovert, dominant and creative of all of the zodiacal characters.  Leonians can be generous, warmhearted, creative, faithful and loving.  Conversely they can be pompous, bossy, interfering and intolerant of others.  Being courageous, positive, self-confident and independent, just like their sign, the lion, the king of the beasts, they lust for power and need to dominate in all walks of life.  They are truly born leaders, highly intelligent, and well equipped to bring out the best from their subordinates who trust them implicitly.  However, a negative Leonian can be a very 'nasty piece of work', displaying arrogance and an excessive quick temper.  When suspicious of any rivals, they will use cunning, lies or any method of trickery to discredit them. In relationships Leonians are sincere, trusting, warm hearted and plain spoken, but dislike being let down by those they trust.  They have a particularly strong sex drive, so much so that they find it difficult to be true when attracted to the opposite sex.  They may have many love affairs, moving swiftly from one attractive partner to another, as a result of which they may not be very successful at marriage. Virgo Characteristics Virgoans are intelligent, analytical, practical and meticulous.  Conversely they can be overcritical, too much of a perfectionist, fussy and worry excessively.  They have an enquiring mind, and are methodical, logical and studious, using their mental aptitude to produce clear analyses of problems.  Sometimes they may be too meticulous and over-analytical, and may slow company or personal objectives down as a result.  Outwardly they appear cold, and are conscious of any shortcomings within their make-up.  This outward lack of emotion may actually conceal too much emotion, which they are loath to show because of their lack of trust in others.  Virgo is the only zodiacal sign represented by a female, and their modesty reflects this in that they become like an 'old maid', and criticism turns to nagging. They have very few stable relationships, and thus make few friends.  In marriage they look for a partner with a low sex-drive, as they are not renowned for being over-passionate.  This does not mean that they do not make good husbands and wives, it is simply the fact that the physical act of love-making is more of a duty than a desire. Career Due to their lack of self-confidence, Virgoans make better subordinates than leaders, although they make excellent technicians with their inventive talents.  They like using language - correctly, so might suit a job in a library.  Alternatively, they might become writers, particularly of historical reference books as opposed to novels.  Their practical, analytical minds might mean they become computer programmers, accountants or book-keepers, or even chemists or physicists. Libra Characteristics Librans are very sociable types usually sensitive to the needs of others.  They despise cruelty or viciousness of any kind, and will 'go out of their way' to keep the peace around themselves.  Despite this, however, they do not tolerate anyone who challenges their opinions, when they believe they are right.  They are basically kind, gentle, moderate, well-balanced types, but they are curious and can tend to search for 'gossip' in their circle of friends.  Libra is the only inanimate sign of the zodiac. In their personal relationships they will endeavour to resolve any differences by compromise rather than spoil a friendship.  They like the opposite sex, sometimes to the extent of promiscuity.  Their marriages stand a good chance of success because the kindness shown toward their partner, even tolerating their failings, quickly repairs any hurt felt by him or her if they have had an argument.  Negatively, Librans can be flirtatious and shallow, indecisive, and boring.  Love for the good things in life can lead them to squander money or to become gamblers. Scorpio Characteristics Scorpio characters are powerful, passionate, forceful, intuitive and magnetic.  Conversely they can be resentful, obsessive, secretive, obstinate and jealous.  If they appear to be calm and collected, don't be fooled - they are ready to burst into action at any moment, always watching every situation closely.  They have tremendous self-discipline, but this is needed since they can be extremely sensitive, and moved by emotions.  Providing they stay on the 'straight and narrow', Scorpios can become geniuses, but should they stray from it they would make terrible ruthless terrorists, as they would develop a tendency to depravity, collecting vices such as aggression, sadistic behaviour, arrogance, jealousy, resentment and brutality like one would collect stamps or coins. Scorpios make very good friends, providing their companions do not try to hold them responsible for some action or other.  On the negative side, they are very jealous, and part of their negativity is a tendency to discard friends once they cease to be of any use to them.  Scorpio, being the symbol of sex, means Scorpios are passionate lovers.  They tend to use sex to 'transcend', to cross the boundary of this physical earth into the spiritual.  As a result of this, debauchery is always a possibility. Career Scorpios can achieve success in many employments, naturally relating as leaders to fellow workers due to their demands and unforgiving nature.   Any profession in which analysis, research, investigation and the solving of mysteries is particularly relevant, so police or detective work, espionage, the law, or physics may be appropriate.  Self-control and detachment indicate that they may become good surgeons. Sagittarius Characteristics Sagittarians are good-natured, intellectual, optimistic and love freedom.  Conversely, they can be careless, irresponsible, tactless and restless.  They love to travel and explore, are ambitious and optimistic, suffering disappointment with little or no effect.  They are forthright and honest with a strong desire to see justice done at all times, and may be religious.  They are strong willed, and good at organising things.  Being intuitive, they love to start new projects, but they are better at adapting things as opposed to inventing them.  On the negative side, Sagittarians can suddenly 'blow their top' over trifling matters.  They are impatient and demanding of others. In personal relationships they are usually reliable and trustworthy.  They can also be outspoken and quickly lose patience, saying exactly what's on their mind, which may well hurt others.  In love relationships, they are 'straightforward' and conventional.  If they have a successful marriage, they will be faithful to their partners, but there is always that restlessness to wander 'nagging' at them.  If the urge to wander becomes excessive, they may waste their lives away on one frivolous pursuit after another. Career A Sagittarian's characteristics fit him or her for many professions.  The law or politics would suit them, as would any position in public service.  Their love of travel makes them ideal travelling salesmen members of the armed forces, or even explorers.  Alternatively their intellect indicates they may become teachers. Capricorn Characteristics Those born under this sign are generally ambitious, practical, patient, disciplined and prudent.  On the other hand they can be pessimistic and tight-fisted.  Being strong willed, they are very capable of persistence to ensure they meet the stringent targets they have set themselves.  But they are liable to mood swings, hence the adjective 'capricious' associated with this sign, and can be reserved and conservative, even pessimistic when things don't go according to plan.  They can also shock people who know them by some witty expression from out of the cyan.  They consider all options and possibilities before taking a course of action. In personal relationships they often feel ill at ease, being self-centred, and wary about unknown quantities in another person.  They tend to treat casual acquaintances with respect, but when they do eventually make friends they are loyal.  They dislike or distrust the opposite sex, and when entering a relationship of this kind they ensure conditions and circumstances meet their requirements before considering marriage.  If and when they do marry, it is normally for life. Career Men or women born under this sign are dependable workers with their 'see it through to the end' attitude, planning carefully to fulfil their own ambitions, and with their organisational skills can work on several projects at the same time.  They respect authority, but if they come into such a position, they expect their subordinates to meet their own high standards.  Suitable occupations include those associated with money and calculations such as banking, financiers, economists etc.  Anything involving long term planning is also ideal, and because of their love of debate, a career as a politician might suit them. Aquarius Characteristics There are two types of Aquarian, the shy, sensitive type, and the lively exhibitionist, but both types share the same characteristics in different ways.  Aquarians are generally friendly people.  They are loyal, honest, inventive and intellectual.  On the other hand they can be detached, contrary, unpredictable and unemotional.  They are also strong willed, and always seek honesty, willing to change their views if new evidence proves them to be wrong.  They are unbiased when hearing both sides of an argument.  They are intelligent, logical and intuitive.  Even though Aquarians dislike loneliness, they often withdraw into themselves, only for this temporary withdrawal to be followed later by a sudden outburst of anger. Despite their open, friendly personalities, Aquarians find it difficult to establish friendships, as a result of which others see them as being 'cold' and stand-offish.  However, once the ice is completely broken, they do make excellent friends.  The same applies to relationships with the opposite sex, for having found a suitable partner they will be faithful and willing to sacrifice everything for him or her.  Emotionally they are often disappointed because their own ideals cause them to expect more. Pisces Characteristics Pisceans are sensitive types, imaginative and intuitive, compassionate and sympathetic.  Conversely, they can be secretive, weak willed and easily led by others.  They often withdraw into a dream world, and wait for a problem to sort itself out rather than trying to solve it themselves.  However, they 'pick things up' quickly, see and listen well to others, and are open to any new ideas.  Their dislike of being confined gives them a love of nature, and a longing to travel to distant places.  They also tend to be gifted artistically, and are very creative. They quite happily accept the people around them, and give far more than they get in return in any relationships.  They are not noted for extremes in sexual relationships, preferring a spiritual relationship rather than a sexual one.  Nevertheless, when married they are home loving and loyal partners, remaining ever faithful. Career Pisceans are 'followers' so work better in subordinate positions rather than any where they have to take responsibility.  Consequently, charity work would suit them, as would a caring position for people or animals.  Their dreams of travel may equip them for duties in the armed forces or the merchant navy.  Their spiritual characteristics could well fit them for a position in the church or possibly in the psychic world as mediums.
